Purpose of the establishment of Nonprofit Organization FAITH
In the Republic of the Philippines, the current administration of the President Duterte, which started in June 2016, is working on the improvement of public security and promotion of economic development. However, many issues are still there. Even in the capital Manila, many people are living in poverty. Many children, especially the homeless children living on streets (called street children), are unable to have sufficient meals and begging, unable to read and write because then cannot get education, working to help out with the family budget and living in an unsanitary environment. It is painful to see such unfairness persisted on the same earth where we are living, and we came to think that we want to eliminate such unfairness.

The members who have gathered in support of establishment of this NPO are the representatives of the organizations and companies which are receiving interns from the Republic of the Philippines under the foreign technical intern training support system. Since we have been helped by those technical interns who came to Japan to work from the Philippines, we would like to do something to give back to the Republic of the Philippines as much as possible. If the lives of street children and their families become stable even a little more and they can get education, we believe, the possibilities of the children will expand.

We have been acting as a voluntary organization until now. Every time we travel from Japan to the Philippines, we have brought Japanese sweets and foodstuff to distribute at the center of Manila, the poverty area (Tondo district), the cemetery where street children are dwelling (North Cemetery) and the island on the lake (Taal). Also, we have donated stationery and rice when visiting orphanages. In addition, our local members are working on finding stores, making manuals for recipes and purchasing ingredients for the people in poverty to be able to sell “karaage” or deep-fried chicken from small street stalls and make an independent living. These activities have been carried out by some of our members so far, but the members who agree with and wish to participate in these activities are increasing now. In order to make these activities more active, it is necessary to have more members participate. To this end, by obtaining a legal personality recognized by society to engage in non-profit activities, our thoughts and activities would be accepted by people around us. We believe it will contribute to the future of street children in the Republic of the Philippines. Based on this belief, we have established a Nonprofit Organization and trying to develop and expand its activities.

Activities until now
Distribution of sweets and snacks
We have been engaged in the activity to distribute Japanese sweets, rice crackers, etc. to street children and homeless people living on streets.
Whenever visiting the Philippines, we packed confectioneries in cardboard boxes (the sum of the length, width, and height of each box is 158 cm) as much as possible and bring them in as carry-on baggage. The price for the content per box is about 20,000 yen. With a visit by three people, three cardboard boxes of confectioneries can be distributed. If it is not enough, the shortage would be filled by procuring locally. We have been engaged in this activity three times per year.
Distribution of T-shirts
We have distributed 50 T-shirts to homeless children and adults living on streets.
Orphanage support
We visited orphanages located within the distance about 3 hours from Manila and donated rice, clothing, sandals, sweets, soft drinks, stationeries, basketballs, kendamas, etc. to each facility.
Soup-run
For the people living in the cemetery, we did a soup-run with local security guards to supply thin rice porridges and a roasted whole pig. Also, soft drinks and sweets were distributed.
Other activities
We distributed Japanese sweets to those people living by collecting garbage and children in Tondo district.
